There's a saying about Tellarite: "never let them realize how stubborn they are." Most tellarites will only dig in further but sometimes they will change course completely. This was exactly what happened Brugu Narm. For most of his life he had lived or been working on Starbase 6 as a security officer, not a role he'd sought out but one he settled into like a deep rut after failing to accomplish more in his career. That was until a young Andorian officer was assigned to the station as his commander who began challenging everything he did and why he was so complacent. This stoked a dull ember inside of him and caused him become singularly focused on proving that "blue-skinned [REDACTED]" how wrong they were.

Nothing motivates a tellarite like proving someone else wrong and within a year's time Brugu was stationed aboard the USS Rubins as a security officer despite being toward the end of his life. He'd always avoided the perils of a starship assignment because he was never one to take unnecessary risks and it seemed like every other day these big Federatiion ships were getting flung through time, having their entire crews de-evolved into lizards, and other non-sense.

When Thophres came aboard the two bonded as she was a bit antiquated and he was very set in his ways and preferred the way "things used to be." He deeply respected her and proved himself to her not out of spite but genuine esteem. When she became captain, he followed her into command becoming her assistant because he was incredibly reliable so long as you know how to talk to and deal with him.
