Born the daughter of a retired Admiral, Hagen Kayto and his wife Eidia Jos, Jadanna grew up in paradise and was fairly sheltered by her parents. However as her telepathic abilities manifested she became more curious about the outside world from interacting with with visitors to Risa and wondering what so many were eager to get away from to come there for escape and relaxation.

Eventually learning of her father's past, which he had not told her much about, she became curious about the Federation and against Admiral Chapel's approval entered the Academy. Though they eventually reconciled, Jadanna's father hope to keep her safe and happy on Risa and free from the troubles of the rest of the galaxy, but even he wasn't immune to his daugther's persuasive nature - having said she could 'charm the birds from the trees.'
