Dr. Jauin was granted amnesty from the Romulan Star Empire and provisional citizenship into the Federation after disclosing classified Romulan research into Borg techology. It was during this they become acquainted with Reyeg Oklul who was aiding in relocation efforts prior to the Romulan star going supernova. During relocation efforts the USS Lavoisier was attacked by Vulcan isolationsts opposed to Starfleet's involvement in saving Star Empire refugees and Captain Oklul was gravely injured. It was only due to Dr. Jauin's intervention that the captain survived the attack resulting in a field promotion from Admiral Stadi.

When a recovered Oklul was given command of the USS Rubins he sought out T'rana to come aboard as acting Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Jaiun became highly valued by the crew of the Rubbins and after the Bluegill Infiltration Incident of 2395 Dr. Jauin was granted a commissioned rank of Commander by Starfleet for their development of a nano-medical means of reversing the bluegill's parasitic control of infected hosts and going above and beyond for the Federation in a time of crisis.
